2008 has been a busy and successful year for Westwood Herefords. There was a high volume of sales during the first half of the year. Among our female sales were two promising yearling heifers that went to long established customers, Dougie Smith and family of Turnbury, Scotland. Repeat clients, Bob and Angela Webb of Ashford Carbonell near Ludlow took a cow and her heifer calf. These were Westwood Laura 400th and her daughter. It was appropriate that this significant member of our most prolific female family should go back to Ashford, for it was at the farm of William Tudge within the village of Ashford, that this great line has its origins. Also returning to its roots was Westwood Lively 66th. The purchaser was Robert Harris, great grandson of George Harris founder of the successful Rowley herd from where our Lively line was founded. Robert also took Westwood Laura 393rd and her promising bull calf Westwood Evolution sired by Westwood Advancer.

Promising breeding bulls going to pedigree herds include Westwood Vintage, used extensively here, to John Williams of Kimbolton, Cambridgeshire. Also, one of the best youngsters ever bred in the Herd, in the form of Westwood Director, a son of Westwood Advancer, has been passed-on to Simon Clarke of Dunstall, Staffordshire for use in his impressive and recently formed Poll Hereford herd. There have been a good number of well developed bulls going into commercial cattle herds in Herefordshire, Shropshire, Somerset, Staffordshire and Worcestershire.

We have been pleased to have had a number of awards in the showring, but great pleasure has been had from seeing Westwood bred cattle doing so well for the herd owners using our breeding. Topping this list has been the famous Free Town herd of the Bradstock family. A number of progeny of Westwood Solomon have given this herd an outstanding year. Taking top awards at all of the Breed’s major events including Supreme Champion at the ‘National Show’ and Grand Champion at the Premier Sale at Hereford in October.

Here at Westwood we have added the fashionably bred Boycefield Dishy to the Herd. He is a well-grown son of the successful Haven Volcano and has much impressed our visitors this year.
