Ray Davies with Westwood Guardian

Ray Davies brought the first pedigree Hereford cow to Westwood Farm in 1945. She cost 60gns at 10 years old! Over the years the herd grew to 65 breeders but due to major farm-business changes in 2002 we currently have some 35 cows and 100 head in total. Throughout the herd’s development, well-bred cows representing distinguished families of the Breed have been introduced to establish distinct breeding lines. Careful selection of sires, representing the best lines in the World, has given a depth of  breeding and a ‘Westwood Hallmark’ that is the ‘Practical Kind’.

We are proud of our cattle and their achievements, but above all we strive to produce stock that will also breed well for others. The herd is run on sound commercial methods grazing pastures some 130m (420ft) above sea-level. The Westwood Herd has participated in various performance-recording schemes since the mid 1960’s and we have a wealth of data that endorse the predictability of our stock. We have won many Championships at major events and supplied numerous cattle into pedigree and commercial herds across the UK and overseas.Westwood Farm is also the home of the small select Lawford Herd established in 1987 by John Wright. This herd is run on Westwood breeding lines and has also been very successful.
