It has always been our policy to breed from well-known families of the Breed using the best bulls available to us. In the early years the use of genetically similar sires enabled us to breed cattle of a dependable type. Today’s herd comprises of seven well-established families.

Introduced with Shucknall Laura 6th by Haven Jubilee, bred by H. Moore, tracing back eight generations to Britannia bred by W. Tudge of Adforton. This is the same family as the Models of Sherlowe, the Spotlights of Llandinabo and the Necklaces of Field fame. All females in the Lawford herd are of the Laura family.

A successful family established with a daughter of Tarrington Do-a-Lot, St. Dials Biddy, bred by D. E. H. Cowles and tracing back to the noted family of G. Childs at Court of Noke, Pembridge.

Our oldest established family bred from Lively 43rd from G. E. Harris of Rowley and sired by Beresford. They trace back to the famous Lively family of J. H. Arkwright of Hampton Court.

This family has bred well at Westwood and is derived from Coxall Pearl 4th sired by Tarrington Do-a-Lot and bred by W. I. Thomas, tracing back through Pearly from S. Robinson of Lynhales to the Pearl family of Hampton Court.

Established with Pansy 2nd by Paunton Sovereign, from E. O. & A. E. Jones of Atok.

A hard working family which was bred from Bockleton Crissie 2nd by Marlow Dictator, purchased from W. H. Sinnett.

The most recent family established with the purchase of Rowington Pansy 19th, by Wenlock Giles , at J. E. Hewitson’s Rowington Herd Dispersal of 1979.

A legend in his own lifetime! He was the most consistent breeding son of ‘1087’ in the U.K. Most of our cows carry his breeding. His influence is immense.

Champion Bull Calf of All Ireland 1994 before he was purchased for Westwood. His pedigree reads like a Who’s Who of Irish Hereford breeding. He has worked well on ‘Ben’s’ daughters, each sire complementing the other. His daughters are important in our current programme.

He was Male Champion at the Royal Highland Show and purchased from the Douglas family at 5 years of age. His dam was an outstanding daughter of ‘1087’.

Used at Westwood late in his life with the generous help of the Lury family of Oakleaf Herefords in Somerset. He is from the Rowington Diadem family that previously bred our great old of the 1970’s, Rowington Upholder. We are impressed with Javelin’s calves and are confident that he has an important part to play.

A First Prize winner at the National Hereford Show. His dam, Walcroft Dowager J5, carries very similar breeding to Mara Javelin. His early calves show great promise.

We will continue to introduce ‘Significant Sires’ to our herd as they become available. For further information on our breeding programme please ask for our brochure.
